Cheongna City Tower

2009
competition
While part of Designer Pool 1 at Heerim this was our entry into the International Ideas Competition for Cheogna City Tower. The tower was landmark attraction with a observation deck and supportive program.
The towers air foil design channeled low speed winds to drive multiple smaller wind turbines. Smaller turbines are more efficient at lower speeds and have a lower cut in speed. The shape of the tower increases the wind speed at the the point of the turbines. The tower of turbines is twisted to take advantage of the different wind directions through the year at the site location. The energy would be used to power the vertical indoor farm and other amenities, while any leftover would be fed back into the grid.
